The best way to approach an alcohol emergency is to prevent it from happening in the first place. One easy way is to avoid alcohol. However, there are also smart ways to drink alcohol without getting a BAC above 0.06.
To stop a friend from drinking more, you can also practice the three D's of bystander intervention:
- Distract: “Let’s go get pizza, we’re done for the night.”
- Direct: “You’ve had enough. Let’s get some water.”
- Delegate: Ask someone else to talk to or dance with your friend while you get them some water.
