The best way to approach an alcohol emergency is to prevent it from happening in the first place. One easy way is to avoid alcohol. However, there are also smart ways to drink alcohol without getting a BAC above 0.06.
To stop a friend from drinking more, you can also practice the three D's of bystander intervention:
- Distract: “Let’s join a dance party, we’re done for the night.”
- Direct: “You’ve had enough. Why don't you get some water?”
- Delegate: Ask someone else to check on your friend.
